The students have been following the adage of playing for the 80 minutes almost to the letter, with final-minute wins over Guyra in their elimination final, and then in Sunday’s minor semi-final against UNE Barbarians.

Resident Ron Roach told The Leader the town was in desperate need of a sewerage system, general maintenance and the installation of kerbing and guttering, new lighting, signage and a proper school crossing.

Although storm troopers, aliens and colourful beings from other galaxies may have replaced the usual uniform-clad students, they definitely came in peace as they set up and served “space” treats to their invited guests.

The competition leaders were up 3-nil before Kiwis could put a goal in the back of the net, and they didn’t concede another to finish on top 3-1.
It was their first win of a Saturday and again they imposed themselves early.

Regional coaching and development officer Jeff Cook has just returned from a national conference in Melbourne where Cricket Australia administrators as well as delegates from all the states and regional associations were mightily impressed by Tamworth’s about-to-be-launched Twenty20 competition.
