Resident Ron Roach told The Leader the town was in desperate need of a sewerage system, general maintenance and the installation of kerbing and guttering, new lighting, signage and a proper school crossing.

A Housing NSW spokesperson said the redevelopment contract had been won by a Port Macquarie building company with the total cost being more than $1.19 million.

27/08/2008 | CHAFFEY Dam stands proud and tall today at 79.2 per cent, having not held so much water since June 8, 2002.
The dam was tantalisingly close to this mark in March at 78.5 per cent.
It also marks a vast improvement in the fortunes of the dam, which has recovered from a low of 13.9 per cent recorded on June 8, 2007. In the space of 14 months the dam has gone from bust to almost bursting but Tamworth Regional Council has urged residents to “keep up the good work” rather than become
complacent.

The Newcastle Herald reported on Monday that Margot McAlary is standing for election to Newcastle City Council at upcoming local government elections as part of a ticket including current Lord Mayor John Tate.
However, Ms McAlary is ineligible to be elected as a councillor, as she is an undischarged bankrupt.

26/08/2008 | A GROUP of Year 11 students has come up with a novel way of getting the recycling message out to the community – whacking it on bottled water labels.
The students – Larissa Lockrey, Charles Morgan, Liz McGuirk, Elsie Barnes and Georgie Amos – from McCarthy Catholic College, Oxley and Tamworth high schools are taking part in a Young Achievement Australia (YAA) program that aims to develop business skills in young people.
