A milestone reached with second centre

5/08/2008 8:59:00 AM
A HIGH capacity Tamworth childcare centre has close to a full complement of children, weeks before it’s finished.

The second Milestones early learning centre, which is under construction and due to open later this month, has 60 places already filled out of its 92

capacity.

It is owned by local couple Narissa King and Quinn Bruce.

When The Leader visited last week, builders were putting final touches to the building, which covers several blocks.

Mr Bruce said the idea for the second centre came after a lengthy waiting list built up at their first Milestones centre.

The original Oxley Vale-based centre filled up after several months, they said.

The first centre has now been open for about two-and-a-half years.

Ms King said the centre expected to take a large number of children who had been on the previous centre’s waiting list.

Unlike many other sites, Milestones would be taking children from infancy.

Ms King said there had been recent changes to the way the industry was regulated.

The National Childcare Accreditation Council – which reports on individual centres – now ranks centres as being of high quality, good quality or

satisfactory.

Ms King said centres like theirs, which was rated as being high quality, often had long waiting lists.

Once it is opened, Milestones will employ 25 staff, including 16 full-time

employees.
