A BUS for people with physical disabilities is on order and should be paid for and available for the clients of Tamworth’s Northcott respite cottage by the end of the year.
The Tamworth Northcott fundraising group held a bowls competition yesterday at Tamworth City Bowling Club and raised about $2500 for the local respite service.
Group president Gwen Chaffey said the specially fitted-out buses were not cheap and it was exciting to be close to achieving that purchase.
She said the group, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Tamworth North, had been running the charity bowls day for almost three decades.
"There’s always a need, it’s as simple as that - the need for the charity dollar is ongoing," Mrs Chaffey said.
"For the past three years we’ve been frantically fundraising to help provide a new bus for the respite cottage.
"It’s not a reality yet but it’s been ordered and we hope to have it here by the end of the year."
About 75 bowlers took part in the competition.
Local businesses either donated prizes or supplied food at a special price.
Mrs Chaffey said some private donors had also made generous donations.
Rotary Club of Tamworth North member Viv Climas was recognised for his ongoing support.
