Police disrupt drug supply in Duri Rd raid

11/07/2008 8:50:00 AM
TAMWORTH police have made major headway in tackling marijuana supply in the area after seizing 3.5kg of cannabis leaf this week.

The haul, which had a street value of $24,000, was discovered after police from the Oxley local area command executed a search warrant on a Duri Rd residence about 12.40pm Wednesday.

Police arrested a 50-year-old woman and 26-year-old man, both from Tamworth, in relation to the find.

Tamworth police Senior Constable Trent O’Rourke declined to comment on how police came to find out the drugs were allegedly at the residence.

“It’s a significant disruption to the supply and distribution of cannabis in the Tamworth area,” Senior Constable O’Rourke said.

“It was a significant amount of cannabis.”

The marijuana was taken to a Sydney laboratory for further analysis this week.

“It has to be taken away under a certain timeframe,” Senior Constable O’Rourke said.

He said the find was not part of a particular operation.

“It’s more of a one-off thing. It’s a part of the ongoing investigation into the distribution and supply of drugs in the Tamworth area.”

Other property, including drug equipment such as waterpipes and cash, was also seized from the address.

The man and woman were given conditional bail and are set to appear in the Tamworth Local Court on July 21.
