WERRIS Creek skipper Stewart Porter is kicking himself after he missed a field goal from in front of the sticks late in Sunday’s major semi-final that would have put his side a point ahead of Dungowan with only a few minutes to play.
“That’s what I’m most wild about,” he said.
“It was right in front.
“I usually kick them but that’s football.”
The Creek went on to lose by four in extra time and now must regroup to face Bendemeer on Saturday to earn another crack at the Cowboys in the grand final.
“We wanted the grand final at home,” Porter said.
“But we’ll have to come back.
“We’ve got another game to win next week first.
“Hopefully we can come back and beat them on their own ground.”
Bendy beat the Creek only two weeks ago and are looming as a real threat after beating Manilla in the minor semi.
“We’ll have to get back to training and get on with it,” Porter said.
“Bendy must have improved to beat them (Manilla) by that much out there.
“It’s one-all but we didn’t have our full side against them last time.
“It should be a good game.”
