State titles at Loomberah go off just perfectly

SHOOTERS had to be perfect to win titles at the NSW State Skeet Shooting Championships at Tamworth Clay Target Club’s Loomberah base on the weekend.

Sydney’s Andrew Lucchitti won the 100 target State Skeet Championship after he was the only person to shoot a perfect 100 from 100.

And Cecil Park’s Michael Maloney shot a perfect 138 from 138 to win the State Handicap title by one target from Bathurst’s Ian Stewart on Saturday as well.

They were two of the impressive performances at a State title which, State secretary Karen Butts said, attracted 81 shooters from all over the nation.

“We had good numbers, up on last year,” Butts said.

“We had shooters from Townsville and Rockhampton, plenty of Queenslanders and some from Melbourne.”

Tamworth Clay Target Club president Peter Sleightholme was delighted with the weekend.

“We are pretty happy with the way it has gone,” he said.

“It’s been well organised with some quality shooters.

“And we have to thank four members here who had done an exceptional amount of work over the last couple of months to have everything ready.

“John Casson, Kevin Weatherall, Rod Taylor and Lachie Cameron have got everything ready to make it a success for us.”

Sleightholme was also delighted to have two club juniors – Blake Michie and Andrew Saunders – make the State junior side.

Michie won the NSW Junior 20 Gauge Championship with a 31 from a possible 50 as well as the NSW Skeet Junior Championship (41-50) .

Butts said the two Tamworth club members joined Newcastle’s David Douglas in the three-man NSW junior team to shoot at the national titles in Wagga early next year.
