TUDOR Wests will be trading hockey sticks for bowls at South Tamworth tomorrow afternoon in aid of their Australian representatives.
The club has organised a bowls day to help the fundraising efforts of Australian Schoolboys representatives Matt Willis and Ryan Betts.
The talented pair will tour South Africa later in the year – a trip that will cost upwards of $6000.
The bowls festivities will run from 3pm and all are welcome for a fun afternoon of fours
bowling.
There will be various prizes handed out on the day, donated by various businesses within the Tamworth community and the two boys will also be selling raffle tickets.
Olympic shooter George Barton has also donated one of his Athens Olympic shirts.
The cost of the afternoon is $10 and includes bowls and a barbecue afterwards.
Willis and Betts will depart on August 2 for the tour which will include at least two already confirmed trial matches and a three-Test series against the South African U18s to conclude.
The newly-selected State U18s squad members will also be in hockey action on Sunday when their Tudors side – competition leaders – clash with Kiwi Diggers in a grand final replay.
The two sides shared a draw the first round, before Tudors thumped an under-strength Kiwis side by five goals in their second meeting.
They should be near full-strength on Sunday, though, as will Tudors when they match-up at noon.
The other Subaru Super Stix first grade clash sees second-placed Services Workies meeting South United at 3pm.
The women’s action also offers two intriguing clashes, with Longyard Olympians – fresh from a bye – hoping to add to their maiden win against Joe Maguires Waratahs from 10.30am, and defending champions Flames looking to emerge from a rare two-game losing streak.
It won’t be easy for them though, opposed to undefeated competition leaders Services at 1.30pm in another grand final replay.
