Feelings of relatives before money grab

27/08/2008 9:50:00 AM
I REFER to the letter published on Wednesday, August 20, “The departed may not rest in peace”.

As a candidate for the council election, and a person still involved in the funeral industry, I would like to express my support for Gary Chillingworth’s letter.

Council should not put the grab for money before the feelings of relatives and friends who have lost a colleague or loved one. The Tamworth Cemetery should remain in its present environment where mourners can pay their respects with dignity and decorum, not having to compete with the noise of industry over the fence. The tranquil environment of our cemetery should be maintained.

Industry has other places to go, where people, particularly the elderly do not.

If elected to council, I would support any suggestion that would enhance the TRC’s ability to make mourners more comfortable in the Tamworth Cemetery, or any cemetery within the TRC, in their time of need, and would oppose anything to the contrary.
